Biography of Mr. Alberto J. Sanchez, P.E.

Mr. Alberto Sanchez was born in Cuba and immigrated to the United States in 1963 with his wife Nancy. While in Cuba he attended the Universidad de Villanueva in Habana, Cuba. Upon arriving in this country, the couple resided in Philadelphia, PA. where Alberto continued his education at Villanova University. While there, he received a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1965. He furthered his education by attending Drexel University in Philadelphia and earning a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering in 1971.
Alberto has been very active in ASHRAE throughout his career. He is a “Past-President” of the Florida West Coast Chapter. After serving the Chapter, he served the membership at the Regional level as Chairman. Mr. Sanchez continued his level of service by being selected to the Society’s Board of Directors. He still remains active at the Society level by serving as Vice-Chair of Honors and Awards. For his great support and commitment to ASHRAE, he has received many awards such as the Distinguished Service Award and the Regional Award of Merit. In 1998 he was given the distinction of being named “ASHRAE Fellow”. He was also recently named “Life member” in 2006.
Mr. Sanchez has over 40 years in the consulting engineering field. In 1988, he founded his firm, A.J. Sanchez Consulting Engineers, Inc. His firm specializes in the design of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, indoor air quality, plumbing and fire protection systems. Over the last 19 years, his firm has successfully design over 2500 projects. Because of his talents, expertise and guidance, the firm was recognized by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce in 1991 as one of ten finalists for the Small Business Award.
Alberto and his wife Nancy have been married for 45 years and have resided in Tampa since 1974. They have three children, A.J., Bebe and Diana. Mr. Sanchez is still very involved in ASHRAE and other professional societies. He is also very involved in the community. His civic service includes being a member of the Tampa Hillsborough Board of Adjustment, Appeals, and Examiners, Usher at Christ the King Catholic Church, as well as, memberships in other civic organizations.
