Biography of Ernest MacFerran, P.E.
2005 ASHRAE Florida West Coast Engineer of the Year


Ernest MacFerran is a '67 graduate of USF (3rd in his class), an ASHRAE member, a Professional Engineer with the Hillsborough County Public Schools, member of the Association of Energy Engineers, published in various engineering journals, main speaker at national and regional engineering conventions and Florida Engineering Society’s 2001 only Grand Award for Engineering Excellence. Prior to the School Board, Mr. MacFerran worked for consulting firms as an HVAC design engineer for approximately 20 years.

In 1995, Mr. MacFerran was the first consulting engineer to be given permission by FDOE to design classrooms with a continuous, reduced outside air based on student intermittent occupancy.

In 1996, Mr. MacFerran authored the Florida Energy Code paragraph 13-407.1.ABC.2.1.1 to permit the use of dedicated 100% outside air equipment. As a result, he designed the first legal installation of a De-Coupled air conditioning system in the State.

Mr. MacFerran is a life time resident of Hillsborough County, married 26 years to the wonderful Janice Carol Carr of Dade City, has three wonderful children and six championship grand children.
