Biography of James H. Carroll, Jr. 2003 ASHRAE Florida West Coast Engineer of the Year

Mr. Carroll is C.E.O. and President of Carroll Air Systems, Inc., a company he
founded in 1972 which currently has offices in Tampa, Orlando, and Ft. Myers.
Jim has been a member of ASHRAE since 1961. He is a Registered Engineer in
the State of Alabama since 1966. He is a member of the National Society of Professional
Engineers since 1966; Florida Engineering Society since 1972; a member
of Tampa Florida West Coast Chapter of ASHRAE since 1972. He served the
Florida West Coast Chapter since 1974 thru 1980. He also served on the Chapter
level one year each as Program Chairman, Research Investments Chairman, and
Membership Chairman. The Chapter received the Regional Chairman’s Award for
the 1970-80 year he served as President.
On the Society level of ASHRAE, Jim served as Regional Vice Chairman in 1981-
82; on the Society Board of Directors as Regional Chairman from 1983 through 1986; Regions Council 1983,
Member Council 1985; Chairman of Region Council’s Functional Planning Committee; Chapter Operations
Committee; Society Nominating Committee; and Society’s Presidential AD HOC Committee on Issue Advisory
in ASHRAE’s Strategic Plan. He is a former Chairman of Engineer’s Week of the Alabama Society of Professional
Engineers while serving as an officer of the Birmingham Chapter.
He has a BS degree from Auburn University where he was member of Phi Kappa Tau social fraternity, Alpha
Phi Omega service fraternity and Squires Honorary fraternity. He is presently serving on the Auburn Alumni
Engineering Council, the Engineering Dean’s Club, and the Auburn Athletic Advisory Council. He previously
served on the Auburn University National Alumni Board of Directors.
In civic activities, Jim is a member of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and Committee of 100 since
1979. He is a member of Emeritus Sertoma Club of Tampa since1972. He was a Sertoma club president, District
Governor, and a Director on the International Board of Directors of Sertoma. He is currently on the Vestry
of St. John’s Episcopal Church; is a past Junior Warden, a member of the property committee for the location of
St. John’s Middle School; and was recently Co-Chairman of the Search Committee for St. John’s Episcopal
Church.
